Dr. Charity Smith-Allen, a respected educational leader and champion for public policy reform, has officially announced her candidacy for the Arkansas Senate, District 15. The seat, currently held by Senator Fred Allen, will be open in the upcoming election.
With a lifelong dedication to education, equity, and empowerment, Dr. Smith-Allen enters the race with an extensive record of public service. She has served as Assistant Commissioner of Education for the State of Arkansas, Lead Planner for Desegregation, and currently serves as Principal Education Associate at Fetterman & Associates, Chair of the Division of Education at Philander Smith University, and Vice President of the Arkansas Minority Health Commission.
Her experience includes roles as a classroom teacher, college instructor, ACT coach, principal, executive director, and legislative collaborator. Her leadership in raising ACT scores and expanding college and career readiness has made a lasting impact across the state. She earned her doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,”said Nelson Mandela—a quote that Dr. Smith-Allen says has shaped her life’s work. “When we invest in our children’s academic success, we strengthen families, grow our economy, improve healthcare outcomes, and build safer, more stable communities. I’m running for Senate District 15 to be the education voice our students and families need at the Capitol.”
Supported by a broad coalition of faith leaders, educators, civic advocates, and community members, Dr. Smith-Allen’s campaign stands for bold leadership, educational excellence, and a brighter future for Arkansas.
